This hub is for traveling families, worldschoolers and homeschoolers! It is also for any families wanting to try out worldschooling for the first time and discover an alternative education option. We also welcome families simply looking for a richer getaway that will provide both socialization and cultural education for their kids.
Absolutely, we are all about creating a diverse, collaborative experience, keeping the hub offerings fresh, and supporting parents to bring their unique gifts to share! If you are a parent with knowledge, skills or talents that are aligned with our hub values, and that you would enjoy presenting or teaching to children, we offer discounted rates proportional to the time offered. Please reach out for more details and to discuss.
We prioritize families that come for the full 3 week program as we have a maximum of 18 kids per hub and if someone leaves early it is unlikely we will be able to fill that spot again. However, if space is available, we may allow a 1 or 2 week visit at a rate of $250 USD per child per week.
Accommodation costs are not included in our hub as we have learned that every family has different needs. We provide a list of vetted accommodation options to all booked hub guests. This list includes options where 3 or 4 families can stay on the same property, together, in separate homes, ensuring privacy while still being able to share meals, common spaces and connection time with the other hub families. Some even include breakfast! Please let us know if you are interested in this option as we can help facilitate placement of families into these properties at discounted rates. Demand can be high and we recommend booking as far in advance as possible.
We are a drop off program however parents are welcome to hang around if they want to keep an eye on their child. Many parents like to enjoy the restaurant as a work or social space or just relax on the farm and watch their child from a distance.
We sometimes take children as young as 3 years old if they are potty trained and if the parents feel that the child will actually enjoy the program. This means the child is showing some independence and comfort playing in groups with older kids. The occasional older child is welcome too provided they will enjoy playing and interacting with younger kids. Please reach out to discuss.
Yes. The restaurant and coffee shop and sitting areas around them have reliable WIFI.
Antigua is known as one of the safest cities in Guatemala. Most people report feeling safe, even at night walking around Antigua. We have never witnessed any crime or felt threatened here. All travel has some inherent risk and we recommend doing your own research and using common sense plus heeding local advice while exploring the city and surrounding areas.
There are a few optional outings that have additional costs. They are: indoor rock climbing, dining out (ie. dad’s dinner out), Accommodation and transportation (Uber, tuktuk. taxi etc..) is also not included.Â
Most families use Uber or Tuktuks (mototaxis). Both are inexpensive options with Uber being a little easier and usually cheaper ($10 or less for most rides in and around the city). Car rental is available in Antigua and may be a good option if you want to explore further afield or are staying a longer distance from the hub. Be aware that Antigua is 90% rough cobblestone streets and isn’t overly comfortable to drive around (bumpy!)
There definitely are! We are looking into creating a more organized program around this. Currently we can put you in touch with some great organizations offering volunteer opportunities. Please just ask.
